PROCEDURES FOR USING SMARTHINKING ONLINE TUTORS

Tutees must personally request Online Tutoring through the Tutoring Center website by completing the Tutor Request Form (online) Go To Form Now. Controls must be established in each lab to ensure that there are no duplicate requests.

The Tutoring Center Assistant in the Tutoring Center on the Newark campus will make the assignment by allocating five (5) hours for each tutee for the quarter.  Math Lab Directors must allocate and assign hours for tutees requesting assistance from their lab.

The Tutoring Center Assistant will notify the tutee to pick up his/her access code and allotted hours from the Tutoring Center or the Tutor Liaison of their respective campus.

Tutee must personally report to the Tutoring Center or the Tutor Liaison at their respective campus to receive an access code, allotted hours, and training on the proper use of SMARTHINKING. Tutees requesting online tutoring through a math lab will be provided their access code, allotted hours, and training when they sign up for SMARTHINKING Online Tutoring.

Each tutee must sign for his/her assignment to utilize the SMARTHINKING Online Program. If the tutee’s allotted hours are used up at any point they must request additional hours to continue using SMARTHINKING by personally contacting the Tutoring Center Assistant (in person, via telephone or email). If additional hours are approved the Assistant will notify the tutee by email or the Tutor Liaison of the tutee’s respective campus if the tutee is not on the Newark campus.

Tutees exceeding their allotted hours, and who received their initial SMARTHINKING assignment from a math lab, must request additional hours from that math.

Tutees are responsible for using SMARTHINKING in an efficient and effective manner so as to not waste hours when online. Every minute a tutee has the program open, and they are in contact with a SMARTHINKING Online Tutor, minutes are deducted from their allotted time. Tutees should make every effort to have an outline of questions and/or material prepared before accessing a SMARTHINKING Online Tutor.
