Newark, Oh – The careers of
John Bevis, Jeremy Blubaugh, and Wes Haberman were honored by the Titan baseball
team and the Athletic Department of The Ohio State
University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
During the Spring Sports Athletic Banquet, Athletic Director
John Kaminsky recognized the accomplishments of the three
men.
Bevis
has worn jersey number 24 for fifteen years; four as a
player, six as a head coach, and the last five as the
assistant coach. He compiled a career record of 86-50 over
his five year stint as the head coach, winning both the Ohio
Regional Campus Conference championship and tournament
championship in 1997. As a player, John was selected
All-Ohio Regional Campus Conference in his sophomore,
junior, and senior seasons, winning the team’s Most Valuable
Player award all three years as well. Bevis finished his
career with a .340 batting average and holds the school
record for career steals with 42.
Jeremy
Blubaugh wore number 22 for fourteen seasons, four
as a player, five as an assistant coach, and the last four
as the head coach. As a player, Jeremy was a three time
winner of the Steven Morgenstern Spirit and Pride Award and
an All ORCC selection his senior year. He compiled a career
record of 77-69, including an ORCC record of 36-10. Jeremy
led his teams to one ORCC crown, three runner-up finishes,
and one ORC State Tournament runner-up finish.
Haberman,
number 16, graduated as one of the most decorated players in
Titan baseball history. He was selected to the All ORCC
teams in his final three seasons and was his team’s MVP in
all three seasons. He was voted the conference’s Most
Valuable Player in 2002, leading his team to the ORCC
Championship. Wes finished his career with a batting
average of .398 in 92 games.
The
jerseys will be placed in the gymnasium of Adena Hall,
alongside the number 39 jersey of Matt Warthman, the only
other retired number for the Titan Baseball program.
