POST SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS PROGRAM
"THE ACADEMY"
This program is made available to Ohio high school students through a state law. The Ohio State University's program is called "THE ACADEMY".
CRITERIA FOR "THE ACADEMY" PROGRAM AT OHIO STATE.
Top 15% class rank (if no rank available, grade point average of 3.5 or higher)
ACT or PLAN scores of 26 or higher, SAT score of 1180 or higher, or PSAT score of 118 (verbal and math) or higher
Recommendation of high school counselor or principal
300 word essay on "Why I Wish to Participate in " THE OHIO STATE ACADEMY"
PARTICIPATION IN "THE ACADEMY"
Although by law "THE ACADEMY" is open to Freshmen-Senior students, the requirement that the student must have completed all the college prep curriculum in the area they widh to take a class makes it difficult for Freshmen or Sophomore students to participate.
THE COLLEGE PREP CURRICULUM IS:
4 units of English
3 units of college prep math-Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
2 units each of college prep science, social
science, and the same
foreign language
1 unit of visual or performing arts
So, if you took the first year of a foreign language in middle school and took the second year as a high school Freshman, you would be eligible to take a foreign language through "THE ACADEMY" your Sophomore year.
If you took Algebra I as an eighth grader, Geometry as a Freshman, Algebra II as a Sophomore you would be eligible to take a math course through "THE ACADEMY" depending on your OSU math placement results.
DEADLINES
Ohio State is flexible to a point on deadlines, however, it is best if you can have your application completed by:
MAY 15 for Autumn Quarter
NOVEMBER 1 for Winter Quarter
FEBRUARY 1 for Spring Quarter
APRIL 1 for Summer Quarter
OTHER INFORMATION
The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program "THE ACADEMY" offers two options.
OPTION A: Students enroll in courses to receive college credit, and the student's family is responsible for all costs. This option is available for all quarters.
OPTION B: Students enroll in courses to receive both college credit and high school credit, and the local school district is responsible for the cost of tuition and books. This option is not available summer quarter.
