Faculty Information
General Information for Faculty about the Newark Campus Library Here you will find the
services available to faculty members at the Newark Campus Library.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the library at
crissinger.5@osu.edu or by
calling extension 307. (740-366-9307)
How can I put materials on Reserve? Please view Guide to Closed Reserves and our E-Reserves (FAQ). Are there any videos that can be used for classroom purposes? The largest collection of videos for classroom use is maintained by OSU University Technology Services. To search their collection of over 4,000 videos, log into the OSU Media Library. This video collection is available to both OSU-N and COTC faculty. Requests must be placed with John D. Crissinger (306) in the library. The Newark Campus Courier delivers these videos on Thursday, so please plan accordingly. Requests should be placed as early as possible to ensure a video will be available when needed. OSU-N faculty can also visit the Media Library in Lord Hall on the Columbus campus to pick up a video thus bypassing the courier service.
Further information about resources at the Newark Campus Library: Can I request the Library purchase something?Faculty are strongly encouraged to assist in recommending materials for purchase for student needs. Materials can be in any format and are not limited to print sources only. Although there is no “departmental” allocation for budgetary purposes, nearly every request is accommodated. Contact John D. Crissinger (306) for assistance. How do I request the Library purchase materials? Requests for purchase should be submitted to John D. Crissinger (306). Although no particular form is needed, one can be found by clicking on “form”. Be sure to include enough information (especially helpful is the title, author and ISBN) so that he can correctly identify the request. The Library uses several different vendors to acquire its materials. How will I know the status of my recommendations? The Head Librarian issues an “on order status” update when there is a change in the status of a request. The update includes title and author information as well as the date the item was recommended, date it was ordered, and what its call number is when it has arrived and is cataloged. Other notes may be included. Updates are placed in your mailbox. What material formats will the library purchase? The Library will acquire materials in virtually any format or language if needed for your classes. Although most acquisitions are text based, figurines, models, maps, digital, microform, and electronic are all considered. Will the Library purchase materials to support my research? Although the Library considers every purchase recommendation submitted, it does follow guidelines in arriving at the final purchase decision. OSUN faculty are tenured through the Columbus campus therefore the Columbus campus library, not Newark, provides most materials to support faculty research. Newark will purchase materials if they have value to the Newark campus beyond the faculty’s research needs. COTC faculty are tenured through the Newark campus therefore the Newark Campus Library, as the primary research facility for COTC, provides most materials to support faculty. However, either faculties are welcomed to use Interlibrary Loan for research needs whenever possible. Contact Tauni Graham (307) for assistance. How do I borrow a book or an article that OSU or OhioLINK does not own? If no library in OhioLINK owns a copy that can be loaned, you may be able to request a copy through Interlibrary Loan. Contact Tauni Graham (307) for assistance. What research support does the Library provide? Ill, citation verification; citation ranking; Faculty PublicationsThe Newark Campus Library collects and maintains copies of Newark faculty publications. If you, as a faculty member, would care to donate a copy of your publication(s) to the library, the library will be very appreciative. create an
online coursepack Does the library provide library instruction or workshops?Library instruction is an important aspect of library service and is available upon request. At least 1 week’s notice is appreciated. Contact Will McElhaney (308) to make an appointment or for additional information. As able, the library also sponsors workshops on a wide range of topics. These will be announced to the faculty and/or campus community as they become scheduled. Suggestions for topics are always appreciated. Contact John D. Crissinger (306) for more information. Top Library terminals require a Buck ID to print, they do not accept cash. Request assistance from the library staff who will print your jobs using a Library courtesy Buck ID card. Can I make copies from microfiche? The Newark Campus Library has a microfiche reader/printer. The 10-cent charge is waived for faculty and staff. There is no microfilm printer
in the Library, only a reader. Microfilm can be taken to Newark Public
Library, Denison, or some other facility for printing. Circulation of library materials for facultyFaculty enjoy the longest circulation periods possible. Most OSU books can be checked out for 90 days and renewed indefinitely unless requested by another patron. There is no limit to the number of materials that can be checked out. Faculty are under the same guidelines and restrictions as any other patron when a hold or recall is placed upon a title they have charged out. The item must be returned within the designated time. Faculty do not incur fines except for 1 of 3 reasons. Recalls and holds – if the deadline for returning a recalled title or one on hold is violated, faculty will be fined at the same rate as other patrons ($10/day). Faculty are expected to settle all “lost & billed” obligations. OhioLINK materials do not belong to Ohio State. They can be borrowed as a courtesy of the lending institution. Materials are generally charged out for 3 weeks and can be renewed for an additional 3 weeks after which they must be returned. Late returns incur a 50-cent per day fine. Failure to return OhioLINK materials in a timely manner endangers the borrowing privileges of the entire University. Can I get books delivered to my office? You will notice that when you
place a request for an item to be held for you, one of the menu location
options listed is "my office." Unfortunately, this service is not
currently available on the Newark Campus. Two large parking lots lie within easy walking distance of the Library. The one directly in front of Founders Hall has posted faculty parking spaces designated by signs and yellow lines. These spaces are reserved for faculty parking permit holders; be sure to clearly display your parking permit tag in your front window. Newark Campus Map |
