COTC TRANSFER AND ARTICULATION GUIDES (TAGs)

What is a TAG?

Transfer and Articulation Guides (TAGs) are transfer and articulation requirements mandated by Ohio House Bill 95 that build upon the Ohio Transfer Module.  TAGs are pre-identified General Education and major (technical) courses that may be transferred across all public higher education institutions in Ohio.  Courses identified as TAG courses must meet 70 percent or more of standardized learning outcomes as developed by Faculty Panels and approved by the Articulation and Transfer Advisory Council under the direction of the Ohio Board of Regents.  TAG courses are identified by an Ohio Articulation Number (OAN) Code, and were implemented across the state of Ohio in autumn 2005.

What is the Objective of TAGs?

The objective of the Transfer and Articulation Assurance Guides is to

  • allow students to transfer, in a simple and direct manner, a core of courses that will count toward the major program;
  • to provide more precise student advising and guarantee the application of credits within the TAG to the major; and
  • to promote equitable treatment between transfer students and students who begin and end study at the same institution with regard to institutional or major/program admissions requirements.

How do TAGs work?

Each public higher education institution in Ohio, beginning late Summer 2005, can submit qualifying courses to the Ohio Board of Regents for approval as TAG courses  (listing of COTC identified TAG courses follows).   A COTC student who received COTC credit for a TAG approved course (if completed on or subsequent to the course TAG effective date) can expect the following to occur when transferring to another Ohio public higher education institution:

IF

  • the institution has a course with a matching OAN code

THEN

  • the student will receive automatic transfer credit for the course at the destination institution.

If a student has completed a COTC TAG course and the destination institution does not have a matching TAG course, then the  COTC course will transfer at least as meeting a major credit.  Application within the major is up to the discretion of the destination institution.

COTC Approved TAGs Course Listing

Listed below are COTC  courses approved by the Ohio Board of Regents as meeting TAG requirements.  To qualify for transfer credit,  a course must have been completed in, or subsequent to, the TAG quarter effective date.
