What Every Student Should Know

It is your responsibility to plan a course of study that will meet your personal needs and your program's graduation requirements.  Sound overwhelming?  Well here are some tips to help you:

Clarify your personal values, abilities, interests and goals.
  • Make sure your advisor is aware of them so we can include them in your overall education plan
Keep current with the requirements of graduation.
  • This information is available from the Academic Advising and Division offices.  It is also your responsibility to read any periodic information that is mailed to throughout the year and act accordingly.
Keep informed of academic deadlines, become knowledgeable, adhere to college policies, procedures and requirements.
  • A schedule of important dates for each quarter is published in the course offerings booklet and is available from the Academic Advising office and Student Records office.  A bulletin with current academic policies is published yearly and is available through the Academic Advising and Student Records offices.

Contact your advisor prior to registration periods or when you need assistance.

  • If you find it impossible to keep an appointment, notify the advising office at 366-9422 or 1-800-9NEWARK ext. 422.
Prepare for advising sessions.

  • You should review and be familiar with your plan of study, quarterly course schedules, have a list of questions and concerns, make notes on personal schedules and priorities that may conflict with academic times, etc.
Have a commitment to your educational plan and goals.

  • This includes diligent class attendance, completion of assignments, meeting class objectives, reading and following the course syllabi and following through on actions identified during the advising process.
