Parking FAQ

Q. Is the campus patrolled 24 hours?
Yes. Campus security provides patrols and service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. University community members are encouraged to call anytime.

Q. Who do I call if I lock my keys in my car or my car won't start?
If you need assistance with a dead battery or keys locked in the car, stop by Hopewell Hall, room 122, or call us at extension 237.

Q. Who should I call for sudden serious illness or help for an injured person?
Call the Campus Emergency Line (300) for sudden serious illnesses or help for an injured person. You should stay on the telephone until the dispatcher obtains all needed information and instructs you to hang up.

Q. What should I do in the event of a fire?
Report the fire immediately by calling campus extension 300 or 911 from a pay phone. Whenever a fire alarm sounds, day or night, evacuate the office or classroom and building immediately. Fire safety is everyone's concern. Each building is organized with fire protection in mind - so familiarize yourself with fire exits, extinguishers, pull stations and panic panels.

Q. Do I have to register my automobile to park on campus?
Yes. All students and faculty are required to register their automobiles. Parking permits are available through Fees & Deposits or Public Safety. Student permits are free. Lost or stolen permits must be reported to Public Safety and are then rendered invalid. Replacement permits are $5.00

Q. How long is the student-parking permit valid?
Indefinitely. Permits do not expire. Permits are valid as long as you attend the Newark Campus. Replacement permits are $5.00

Q. Who do I call for emergency assistance if I live off-campus?
Call Newark City police for police service when off campus. However, if service is needed while on campus, call Campus Security x237

Q. How safe is the Newark Campus?
While no campus can guarantee the complete safety of its community, we play a major role together to provide the safest possible environment. Q. How do I protect my personal property?
There are several services available to aid in theft prevention. We encourage you to see us about these programs. Often, the best protection you can provide is not leaving valuables unattended, and to secure them when they are not in use.

Q. Are weapons allowed on campus?
No. The campus prohibits weapons of any kind on campus. To do so is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.

Q. How much theft occurs on campus?
Crimes of opportunity are the most common crimes committed on campuses across the nation. These crimes involve the theft of property left unattended. As our campus grows so does the potential for crime. However There were only 8 thefts reported in 2003 and another 8 thefts reported in 2003. Crime Statistics for view the campus crime statistics. A criminal needs three things in order to commit a crime --ability, motive and opportunity. You can take away the "opportunity."

Q. What precautions should I take regarding my bicycle?
Bicycles are a popular mode of transportation on campus. We recommend you secure your bike with a U-bolt one-piece locking mechanism. Lock your bike to a bike rack, not a handicap ramp, tree, furniture or signpost.

Crime prevention programs are offered year round to heighten student and employee awareness of safety issues on and off campus
