Student Laptop Initiative
The Information and Technology Services Department has developed a laptop initiative that provides opportunities for students to acquire and utilize campus standard wireless laptop technology. Campus supported laptops can be used in classrooms and other indoor and outdoor areas without the need for wired network connections. To inquire about campus standard laptops please visit the Hardware Standards page or phone the help desk at X244.
OSU-N and COTC students and campus faculty and staff will have wireless laptop services throughout campus beginning winter quarter, 2003. Campus supported laptops are available to students for personal purchase through the Dell Computer Corp. authorized campus laptop vendor listed on the campus web site. Newark Campus account usernames and passwords allow students to connect to the wireless network. For complete instructions, please visit: www.cotc.edu/techconnect or www.newark.osu.edu/techconnect.
OSUN and COTC Open Computer Labs are located several places on the Newark Campus. For further details on their location, hours, and how to get a Newark Campus account for access, please visit the TechConnect website at http://www.newarkcampus.org/techconnect. There are also program area labs open for student use in Hopewell and LeFevre Halls. Check with your instructor about hours of operation for these labs.
The Newark Campus has installed student multimedia workstations in locations around campus to enable students to create class projects, multimedia assignments, and other technology products and projects approved and assigned by campus faculty and campus groups. The stations have hardware and software for digitizing all manner of paper, photo, and video inputs. The stations have the capability to create CD-ROM and DVD-ROM output to be used in campus multimedia classrooms. Students are expected to observe copyright and intellectual property regulations and law when using the multimedia workstations. Stations are located in Founders 174 open computer lab.
The campus library provides wireless laptops for students to utilize inside the library. These laptop computers enable students to do Internet research, copy and type information, save information to disks and use email. Students are reminded to respect intellectual property and observe copyright at all times. If you are unsure about copyright provisions, then ask library personnel. Never assume you can copy or use materials and images you find online without permission.
