What are the
benefits of the printer network?
Can I print to a printer in a different building than my office?
As a faculty
member, can I still have my office ink jet printer? Yes. The
campus printer strategy includes a number of options, including
centralized printing. Faculty members will continue to have the option of having
printers in their offices. The common goal is to provide the most
cost-effective, highest quality, convenient printing for campus needs.
What are the benefits
of the printer network? The networked printers are laser
jets which are more efficient, faster, deliver higher quality printing, and have
more printing options than desk ink jets. It is less expensive to print
on a laser than on an inkjet.
How do
I know which printer is which on my computer? When you
choose "print" a dialog box displays a drop down menu of available printers.
Each printer has a name that refers to its location. For example, "Founders 169 Color"
is the color printer in Founders Hall room 169. "LeFevre Balcony B&W" is
the black and white printer in the Lefevre balcony area.
Can I print to a printer in a different building than my office?
Yes. You are authorized to print at any printer that is visible to you on
the drop down menu on the printer selection. If you are not physically
present at the printer at the time you request the print job, you may want to
use the confidential print feature (see below).
How do I ensure confidentiality when using a community printer?
You are encouraged to use the Services Center for confidential print jobs. However using the directions provided here
you can send a job to a community printer, but not have it print until you type in a PIN
code on the control screen at the printer. This allows you to be
at the printer during the time of printing. Your job will be deleted from the
printer after it prints. For more information contact
the Help Desk at x244.

How many pages can I print? Is there a limit?
Printing is not monitored for faculty or staff. In
general, keep in mind that inkjet printers are least efficient, use the most
expensive ink, and produce the lowest quality printing. Nearby laser
printers produce higher quality prints at lower costs. You are encouraged to
send large print jobs to the
Services Center for even larger printing cost savings.
Whom do I contact for paper and toner?
For paper and laser toner, please call the Services Center at x213. Ink jet ink
cartridges are ordered by your office.
Whom do I contact if there is a paper jam, error, etc?
Please contact the Help Desk, x244.
What do I do if I still need help?
You can talk with someone in the TEL Center (169 Founders) for hands on training
for community printers, or contact the
Help Desk, x244.
