ITS Strategic Plan 2007-2010

Thank you for your input into the ITS Strategic Plan for 2007-2010.  Campus-wide meetings, surveys, and interviews provided much-needed information to focus our efforts for the coming years.  The Plan is available for comment and we look forward to your feedback.

Safe Computing Practices: It takes a Campus

Remember your fire safety training:  Stop, Drop, and Roll ?  Here's a new one to remember for computer safety training:  ALT/CTRL/DELETE, LOCK COMPUTER.

It takes a campus to safeguard student and employee personal information contained in institutional data.  Anyone operating, maintaining, and using campus systems containing personal information must effectively control access to those systems to protect against disclosure or exposure of personal information to unauthorized persons. This means, among other things, logging out of the network and locking your computer when you leave the computer unattended.

Press ALT, CTRL, and DELETE keys at the same time to bring up the Task Manager.  Choose "Lock Computer".  Your computer is locked until you enter your password.  Fast, easy, and most of all, safe.

Security

Maintaining security of the data on the campus network is a priority for everyone on campus.  Although the department is constantly looking for technical solutions to security issues, the single most important security issue is password protection.  Do not share your unique username and password with any student, staff or faculty member.  If you feel your username and password has been compromised, contact the Help Desk (x244, or 740-366-9244)and we will assist you in changing your password.  In the near future, the campus will be instituting a strong password system that requires you to update your password periodically. Do not post your username and password anywhere in your office where a visitor may be able to see it.  Protecting data, including social security numbers, grades, and personal information is critical.  Please join us in keeping the network as secure as possible.

The Office of the CIO works to serve the needs of the students, faculty and staff at the Newark Campus.  Please contact the Help Desk at x244 if you have any questions or need assistance anytime.

Our guiding mission is to provide secure and stable technology and information services that support the academic mission with innovative, efficient, student-centered processes to improve the quality of the teaching and learning environment.
